Effingham, Surrey
The brief
AAP was briefed to provide a single-family home on an existing and relatively modest garden plot adjacent to White Cottage. The site is located in the heart of Effingham and next to an existing Methodist Church.
As part of the Effingham Conservation Area, the proposals needed to respect the local materials, vernacular and other important buildings. The elevated location, adjacent to a popular route through Effingham, meant the proposals would be in a highly visible location.
The work
- The preparation of a full planning package, including co-ordination with third-party specialist consultants throughout the planning process
- Application submission and negotiation with the Local Planning Authority and Conservation Officer
- The production of full working drawings and construction details
- We coordinated with the local authority building control
The result
An attractive single dwelling in the heart of a popular village and within the Effingham conservation area – complimenting the local distinctive character and making best use of an isolated and redundant garden. The development reached the finals of the LABC Building Excellence Awards 2019, achieving runner-up position.
